Himachal Pradesh government approves ₹2,500 crore tourism project

The Himachal Pradesh Government has given approval for a significant ₹2,500 crore project with the aim of boosting the state’s tourism industry. Chairperson of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC), RS Bali, made this announcement during the opening of the 3-day Asian Rafting Championship in Nadaun, Hamirpur District.

The project has been assigned to RS Bali by the state’s Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and will be executed with financial help from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It includes the construction of a tourism corporation hotel, wellness, and water sports centers in Nadaun, according to Bali.

Himachal’s Tourism recently took a big step to attract more tourists by offering up to a 50% discount on hotel rooms. This move comes after the safe evacuation of more than 70,000 tourists by the state government who were stranded due to heavy rain and landslides.

Meanwhile, the state government has proposed building a 1.1 Km long ropeway at Mata Chintpurni Temple in Una district. Aiming to promote religious tourism, this project is estimated to cost ₹76.50 crore.

The government plans to connect various religious shrines with ropeways for easy accessibility and strengthening existing infrastructure, and Mata Chintpurni ropeway is one of them.

The Mata Chintpurni Temple is known for its spiritual and historical significance as one of the recognized Shakti Peeths. According to the officials, this proposed ropeway would be able to facilitate 700 passengers per hour in each direction.

At present, access to the famous temple is limited to a single-lane road from the Baba Mai Dass Bhawan parking area, causing congestion and overcrowding during religious occasions like Navaratri. The ropeway will significantly address this issue while effectively improving the pilgrimage experience.
