Air India to add 30 new aircraft to its fleet during this winter season

Air India is making significant moves this winter season, which started in the last week of October. Air India will take delivery of 30 brand-new aircraft, adding more than 400 flights a week to their winter schedule.

Beginning now, by March 2024, the airline plans to introduce over 30 wide-body and narrow-body aircraft to its fleet, including four B777s, six A350s and twenty A320neos.

And now, the best part! Around 200 of these new flights will be on international routes, adding more frequencies and connecting new city pairs between India and North America, Europe and Southeast Asia.

According to Campbell Wilson, MD and CEO of Air India, this means more exciting travel opportunities for passengers. In addition to the increased flights, Air India has ramped up frequency on eight international routes across the United States, Southeast Asia, and Europe, offering 25x weekly flights each way.

Direct flights between Bengaluru and Singapore have already started by Air India. Furthermore, the airlines will also start operating direct flights between Mumbai and Melbourne this December.

Wilson added, “We are also hoping to launch four new international stations in the next few months, of which we’ll share more details in due course, as well as more interline partnerships.”

On the aircraft side, Air India is stepping up their game. From now on, upgraded B777 fleets will operate all three non-stop US flights from Mumbai (San Francisco, New York, and Newark) as well as two Mumbai Heathrow flights. The new B777 fleets will feature modern generation seats and in-flight entertainment.

Wilson also hinted that this is just the beginning of much more to come and revealed plans to completely refit the interior of their legacy wide-body aircraft in less than a year from now.

To kick things off, Air India received delivery of their first fleet of six Airbus A320neo aircraft from CDB Aviation, a wholly-owned Irish subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing.

Also, at the launch of the new design of Air India Express, Wilson promised to introduce one new aircraft every six days until the end of 2024.
